B.C. Transit handing out free masks in Kelowna

If you're in need of a face covering, today is your chance to snag one for free.

B.C. Transit has partnered with the City of Kelowna to distribute face masks, in line with their mandatory mask policy that begins today, Aug. 24.

The new policy was announced last week, and mandates that passengers on all B.C. Transit buses are required to wear a face covering unless they meet the exclusion criteria.

Children under the age of five and those who can’t wear a mask due to health reasons are exempt from this requirement.

The new policy will be implemented using educational steps rather than enforcement, B.C. Transit said in a release.

Masks will be handed out Aug. 24 from 3:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Kelowna's main transit hubs, including the Queensway, Orchard Park, Mission Rec and Rutland Exchanges.

B.C. Transit also wants to remind riders that the fall transit schedule will be returning Sept. 6 for the Okanagan and Kamloops.
