B.C. police officers were able to rescue a 'masked bandit' from drowning this week.

White Rock RCMP officers responded to reports of a baby crying around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. They were called to the area of Balsam Street and Victoria Avenue, according to an RCMP news release.

Police officers located a baby racoon crying loudly in a storm drain and its mother was unable to rescue it.

RCMP officers removed the drain cover and used a dog pole to help remove the baby.

The unhappy mother watched the officers, and voiced her displeasure, until her baby was free.

They were last seen scurrying away together on Victoria Avenue, RCMP said.
