A B.C. nurse who broke an earlier agreement over their use of "mood-altering substances" has had restrictions put on their practice for two years.

According to a March 9 B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives decision, the unnamed registered nurse had come to an earlier consent agreement with the regulator over their use of "mood-altering substances."

The decision says the nurse was diagnosed and admitted to a "causal relation to conduct" and has agreed to comply with treatment recommendations.

The registered nurse will now have conditions placed on their access to and handling of controlled medications, and will be monitored to "support a stable return to fitness to practice."

The nurse is the fourth so far this year to have been disciplined over their usage of narcotics.

The nurse will also have to submit regular reports from physicians regarding their compliance with treatment and recommendations including biological monitoring.

They will also have to disclose the treatment to their employer.

The nursing regulator says the conditions will remain in place for two years.

While the decision says the nurse failed to comply with an earlier agreement, it gives no details as to what the agreement entailed or when it was put in place.

The regulator says, so as not to identify the personal health information of the nurse, their name has been redacted.

The regulator says it is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
