A B.C. nurse who failed to report several incidents of staff abusing seniors while on her watch is scheduled for a disciplinary hearing.
Licenced Practical Nurse Barbara Berg stands accused of failing to report abuse that took place at the Maple Ridge Seniors Village in 2020.
According to the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives, Berg was told by a care aid that they'd witnessed another care aid making a fist at a resident and putting them in a chokehold.
In a separate incident, another care aid reported to Berg that she'd seen a care aid place an electric razor in a senior's mouth three times to "keep him quiet."
"You did not report this incident of resident abuse to the management team at Maple Ridge Seniors Village contrary to one or more... professional standards," reads a notice from the nursing college.
Both incidents took place around Christmas of 2020.
Following the abuse, the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives attempted to contact Berg on 18 separate occasions via telephone and email over an eight-month period.
The college says Berg failed to respond in a timely and substantive manner.
Berg's hearing is scheduled to take place May 11 and 12.
There are no details in the decision about what happened to the care aid that committed the abuse.
