A former B.C. nurse who “financially exploited” their relationship with a woman to pilfer $25,000 in cash is due a disciplinary hearing before the nursing regulator.
Mateaki “Matty” Hammond hasn’t been a nurse since 2019 but will still face disciplinary action through the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives. The college alleges Hammond “fostered a relationship with (a woman) to advance your personal financial interests and/or engaged in financial exploitation of (her)” between 2014 and 2017.
The victim in the case isn’t named, nor is there any indication she was a patient, but the citation alleges Hammond “acted to alienate (the woman) from her friends and family” before meddling in her finances.
The college says Hammond tried to add $100,000 to her line of credit and tried to directly withdraw cash from her bank account. Later Hammond received $25,000 over six different occasions “without proper regard for (the woman’s) best interests”.
The hearing is due this December. The citation doesn't say where the events allegedly took place.
