Union activist and human service professional Maddi Genn will be the BC NDP candidate in Kamloops-North Thompson.

Genn will be running against BC United MLA Todd Stone and Barriere Mayor Ward Stamer who is the BC Conservative candidate.

“I work in healthcare supporting and advocating for at-risk youth and have spent the last four years as a union representative, supporting and advocating for my colleagues in the United Steelworkers Union,” Genn said today, Aug. 21 at a news conference in Kamloops.

“I have seen and I understand firsthand the struggles people and families have securing affordable housing and making ends meet.”

Genn grew up in Salmon Arm and moved to Kamloops in 2016 to go to Thompson Rivers University and earned a Human Services Diploma, according to a media release. She recently formed the NextGen committee to make sure young workers have the tools they need to be successful.

She will be officially nominated at party meeting scheduled for Sept. 8.

The provincial election will be held on or before Oct. 19.
