KELOWNA - It’s official, B.C. NDP candidate Shelley Cook will be taking on Premier Christy Clark in the renamed riding of Kelowna West.

Cook will be acclaimed as the party's candidate at a nomination meeting Saturday, March 18 in Kelowna, according to a media release. The Kelowna West riding was formerly known as Westside-Kelowna. It covers West Kelowna and a chunk of downtown Kelowna.

Cook is currently leading research on Kelowna’s homeless during her PhD candidacy at UBC Okanagan.

The former executive director of the John Howard Society and former chair of both the Treatment Pillar for the Central Okanagan Four Pillars Coalition and the City of Kelowna’s Housing Committee, Cook has worked extensively on housing issues in Kelowna.

“Christy Clark ignores the housing crisis here in Kelowna,” Cook said in the release. “She has neglected care for seniors and our kids’ schools.”
