Heading into the final week before the election the BC NDP and the BC Conservatives are almost neck-and-neck in the Southern Interior, according to a recent poll.
A Research Co. poll found 43% of decided voters in the Southern Interior would vote for the BC Conservatives compared to 42% who would vote for the BC NDP.
Provincewide, the poll tipped the BC NDP to win with 45% of decided voters casting their ballot for the New Democrats, ahead of the BC Conservative at 41%.
The Green Party polled in third place with 11%, and 3% of decided voters said they would back other parties or Independent candidates.
"The BC Conservatives keep the upper hand among men (at) 45% and voters aged 18-to-34 (at) 44%," Research Co. president Mario Canseco said in a media release issued, Oct. 15. "The BC NDP is first among women (at) 50% and voters aged 55 and over (at) 53%."
The BC NDP has its strongest support in Metro Vancouver with the ruling party leading in the polls at 50% to the Conservatives at 40%. On Vancouver Island, the NDP are leading against the Conservatives at 45% to 33%.
The race is neck-and-neck in the Fraser Valley with the BC NDP at 45% and the BC Conservatives at 44%.
Northern BC has the strongest support for the Conservative Party and leads the race at 52% to 34%.
Housing, homelessness and poverty are the most important issues facing the province, followed by health care, the economy and jobs, crime and public safety, and the environment.
Since a poll earlier this month, the approval rating for the BC NDP leader David Eby has jumped one percentage point to 52%. BC Green Party leader Sonia Furstenau also saw her ratings climb with 45% of voters approving of the way she was handling her duties.
BC Conservative leader John Rustad saw his approval rating drop three points to 42%.
BC NDP leader David Eby came in the top position when asked who would make the best premier at 40%, with B Conservative leader John Rustad coming in second with 31%. BC Greens leader Sonia Furstenau got 14% and 15% said they weren't sure.
