B.C. man's faith restored in RCMP after positive experience

An anonymous letter writer is commending the actions of a B.C. RCMP officer, stating that his experience has taught him that law enforcement "isn't always out to get you."

The letter, recently posted to the B.C. RCMP's website, states an Upper Fraser Valley RCMP officer pulled the man over for speeding on Highway 1 and issued him a ticket.

"While doing it, officer Ostrom gave me a master class in communication. He did not talk at me or talk down to me. Rather, he spoke to me more like a concerned relative or friend. I was rushing to the airport to drop off my girlfriend, hence the rush," the anonymous man wrote.

The officer explained to the man that by speeding, he was endangering others on the road and also sabotaged the intent of his journey.

"As an African Canadian man, I haven't always had the best experiences with law enforcement. Officer Ostrom taught me that law enforcement is not always 'out to get you,'" he wrote. "Much more often than not, they are ensuring your safety. His words will always reverberate with me whenever I get the urge to speed. No more self-sabotage. Thank you for restoring my faith."

"The world needs more of you," he wrote.
