KELOWNA - This weekend was busy for search and rescue teams as snowmobilers, skiers and a snowboarder were retrieved from various spots around the Interior.

At Big White near Kelowna two men in their 20s were found in the middle of the night after getting separated from their group yesterday afternoon, March 12. The two local men, one skier and one snowboarder, were found around 3:15 a.m. this morning by Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, according to an RCMP media release, around 12 hours after being separated from their group in the Gem Lakes area.

Both had mild hypothermia and were taken to hospital for treatment and assessment.

Sunday morning, March 12, a pair of snowmobilers near 100 Mile House were found after spending the night on Mica Mountain. There were avalanche concerns, but crews were able to reach them by 11 a.m. after the pair had been spotted by helicopter.

Rescue teams were also called out for a snowmobiler in the Enderby area and another near Blue River, north of Kamloops. Both were injured and picked up by a winch and helicopter crew. One was taken to hospital with a back injury and the other with a broken leg.

Two skiers were also found after a 36 hour search near Fernie, that ended Sunday.
