B.C. hits 90% partially vaccinated as another 1,370 new COVID cases reported over weekend

There are now 4,169,986 B.C. residents who are partially vaccinated against COVID-19, or 90% of those over the age of 12. There are 85.3% who are fully vaccinated.

The news comes from a Ministry of Health media release issued today, Nov. 1, that shows there were 1,370 new cases recorded over the weekend, including 568 by Saturday, 470 by Sunday and 332 today.

Of those, 222 were in the Interior Health region. That averages to 74 a day, lower than the numbers that were recorded any day last week.

Of the new cases, 603 were in the Fraser Health region, 218 on Vancouver Island, 203 in the Northern Health region and 124 in Vancouver Coastal.

Twenty-five people died of COVID over the weekend, including seven in the Interior Health region, bringing the death toll to 2,181.

There have been six new health care outbreaks including two in Interior Health, Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre in Kamloops with one resident and one staff testing positive and Sun Pointe Village in Kelowna with nine cases, including six residents.

The hardest hit care home in the region is Cottonwoods Care Centre in Kelowna where 70 cases were detected in an outbreak that began in August and has claimed 17 lives.

There have been 28 cases and seven deaths in the Overlander long-term care facility in Kamloops, 41 cases, with three deaths at Village by the Station in Penticton, 12 cases and one death at Haven Hill Care Centre in Penticton along with 12 cases and one death at Deni House in Williams Lake.
