PENTICTON - The race for Penticton MLA in the upcoming provincial election is a three way competition as the B.C. Green Party announced its candidate today.

Connie Sahlmark will run for the B.C. Green Party in Penticton, according to a media release.

Sahlmark has been a full-time student at Okanagan College taking the Sustainable Construction Management Technologies program, and has sat on the Okanagan College Education Council for the past three consecutive years.

Sahlmark says she hopes to develop other jobs in the Okanagan beyond those of the service industry.

“We live in a land of peaches and beaches but there are challenges retaining members of the workforce. Benefits of engaging the merging clean energy and tech sectors as the backbone of our economy not only provides well-paying jobs but will lower the cost of living,” she says in the release.

Sahlmark will square off against incumbent B.C. Liberal MLA Dan Ashton and B.C. NDP candidate Penticton city councillor Tarik Sayeed in the Penticton riding.

The provincial election is on May 9.
