A man has been shot after he drove into an RCMP officer in the police station's parking lot.
According to a BC RCMP media release, the vehicle drove into the police parking lot hitting the officer and a police vehicle and was then shot by another officer.
The incident took place at the North Cowichan – Duncan Detachment at roughly 6:30 this morning.
"This is a very disturbing incident for our members and employees," North Cowichan – Duncan RCMP Insp. Chris Bear said in the release. "Additional supports and resources have been brought into our detachment and core policing operations for the community will not be impacted. We are unsure what the man’s intentions were at this time, but the investigation will look to determine that."
Both the injured RCMP officer and the driver were taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident is now under investigation by the police watchdog, the Independent Investigations Office.
The North Cowichan – Duncan RCMP detachment is closed to the public while the investigation is taking place.
