B.C. is going to have to get very comfortable with the number 50, even at the drive-ins.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry's order has restricted mass gatherings to no more than 50 individuals and today the order was extended.

It now has been amended to also include no more than 50 vehicles for outdoor drive-in events, with a restriction on the sale of refreshments.

"Anyone attending these events must stay in their cars unless they have to go to washrooms, which must be serviced with running water for proper hand hygiene," a statement from the provincial government said today.

Enderby's Starlight Drive-In currently has a limit of 100 cars, which is less than 50 per cent of normal capacity. It's unknown at this time how it might affect the Pleasant Valley Secondary School graduation set for the drive-in June 17.

In an emailed statement the Starlight team said, it's not believed that this order was mean to capture them.

"We think it is aimed at a number of proposed pop-up operations that do not have the infrastructure that we have, and are not pre-existing and on-going businesses operating at less than 50 per cent capacity as per the provincial order," reads the statement.
