A group of Burnaby coworkers are $7-million richer after a lottery win.

The 24 colleagues at a Burnaby-based production company won the Daily Grand top prize of $1,000 a day for life, April 10, according to a BC Lottery Corporation media release.

The group, which all work at an unnamed company, chose the $7-million lump sum which will net them $291,000 each.

The person in charge of coordinating the lottery ticket purchase found out they won big late one evening.

"It was 10:30 p.m. at night, it was late, but I still called a few in the group. They were excited and said, 'Oh my gosh, it’s us,'" Iuliana Petrovici said in the release. "I was at home, and I got goosebumps all over my body. I started shaking and I asked my husband to double-check."

The following morning she broke the news to the rest of her colleagues. Unsurprisingly, they were "so happy and so excited."

"I am sure all 24 of us would agree on happiness. There will be less worries for us," Petrovici said.

They plan to spend their winnings to purchase new cars, plan dream vacations and home renovations. They'll also splurge on a lunch for the entire company.

The winning ticket was purchased at Save-On-Foods on Marine Way and Byrne Road in Burnaby.

The lottery corporation says it’s important to take some steps that will help avoid any misunderstanding when playing the lottery with family, friends or coworkers. It's recommended that groups appoint someone as a captain to coordinate collecting participants' money, buying the group's ticket(s), tracking group winnings and posting results.
