B.C. conservation officers ticketed almost 80 hunters and anglers and issued more than 100 written warnings following a road check on Highway 97 near Cache Creek west of Kamloops over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

B.C. Conservation Officer Service inspected more than 1,400 vehicles over the long weekend in a combined operation with the RCMP and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Ministry of Forests, according to a media release.

The roadblock on Highway 97 was set up 24 hours a day and was in place for a total of 56 hours outside of Cache Creek.

During that time, conservation officers inspected more than 1,400 hunters and anglers and issued more than 200 enforcement actions.

Forty-eight provincial violation tickets were issued, along with 29 federal contravention tickets, and 125 written warnings.

Conservation officers checked more than 1,400 firearms and inspected more than 2,200 fish and game, which included inspections of 241 moose, 157 deer, and 1,239 upland bird.

Along with the animals, officers checked 530 fish, which included 140 trout.

The Conservation Officer Service said it has a long history with Cache Creek and said it was the site of a game-checking station in 1946. In its first year of operation, 64 convictions for game violations were processed from what was a tent at the side of the road.
