Tigers great Willie Horton to cast handprints in cement for display at Detroit Legends Plaza

April 12, 2013 - 1:01 AM

DETROIT - Tigers great Willie Horton is set to cast his handprints and signature in cement for a permanent exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum's Legends Plaza.

Horton is scheduled to take part in a casting ceremony Friday at the museum.

The Legends Plaza is an outdoor tribute to iconic Detroiters. It sits in front of the museum.

This fall, Horton's impressions will join those of Mayor Dave Bing, rocker Alice Cooper, Motown star Martha Reeves, author Elmore Leonard, Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders and other notable Detroiters.

Horton's number 23 was retired by the Tigers in 2000. Drafted by Detroit out of Northwestern High School, Horton was a member of the 1968 World Series champions. He currently works as an adviser to Tigers president Dave Dombrowski.
