A 42-year-old man, who was already banned from driving, has been arrested for allegedly running a stop sign and causing serious injuries to his passenger while high on drugs in the South Okanagan earlier this week.

The unnamed male driving a Ford Explorer is said to have driven through a stop sign in Okanagan Falls on July 10 and was then T-boned by an oncoming Ford pickup truck.

The passenger in the Explorer suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries, while the other occupants of both vehicles were uninjured.

Penticton RCMP said in a media release that the incident took place at roughly 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Oliver Ranch Road at Weyerhauser Road in Okanagan Falls.

Police arrested the 42-year-old who was prohibited from driving and said he was impaired by drugs.

Charges of prohibited driving, impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, along with the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, have been submitted to the B.C. Prosecution Service.

No other information was given in the release.
