OTTAWA - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird says National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden should surrender himself to the United States, abandoning his bid for asylum in Brazil.
Baird says Snowden's actions have compromised international security.
The U.S. wants to prosecute Snowden, who was granted temporary asylum in Russia.
Baird says the U.S. has a fair justice system, and that's where Snowden should face the consequences of his actions.
Snowden praised Brazil's government in an open letter this week for standing up to the U.S. spying, and said he could offer more details if he was granted political asylum there.
Snowden's cache of documents also suggests that Communications Security Establishment Canada once monitored Brazil's mines and energy department and helped the U.S. and Britain spy on participants at the London G20 summit in 2009.
