Bail denied on new charges for Kelowna child sex offender

The public wasn't warned of Taylor Dueck's release to Kelowna, despite repeated offences and a previous public warning in Abbotsford.

Bail was denied today for a repeat child sex offender accused of molesting an 11-year-old girl in Kelowna while on a probation order.

Judge Michelle Danyluk ordered Taylor Dueck detained in custody until charges of inviting a person under age 16 to sexual touching and breaching probation.

The reasons for detention are prohibited from publication by court order.

Dueck’s new charges lit a firestorm across B.C. after Kelowna-Mission MLA Renee Merrifield raised the issue in the legislature.

Dueck had been getting horse-riding lessons while on probation, but was supposed to be closely monitored by his probation officer. Instead, he allegedly found the 11-year-old girl at the facility while the probation officer was in his car for two hours.

Merrifield questioned why the public was not informed that Dueck was living in the community.
