PENTICTON - It’s official. Backstreet Boulevard is back in Penticton.

A dedication ceremony was held on Saturday to officially rename Westminster Avenue East to Backstreet Boulevard.

Deputy mayor Wes Hopkin calls it a new era for the downtown.

“Revitalization happens in many ways and Backstreet merchants are injecting new life into their part of downtown Pentiction,” Hopkin said. “We are inspired by their community spirit and are thankful for their efforts.”

The Front 2 Backstreet Bash on Saturday included guided tours of the Penticton Creek rehabilitiation project, the Relmagine Art Festival murals and the heritage buildings.

“This area of downtown is home to a number of unique merchants and services,” according to Downtown Penticton Association executive director Kerri Milton. “It’s a hidden gem in our community.”

The event also included a ceremonial blessing from the Penticton Indian Band.
