SUMMERLAND - It’s business as usual at the Summerland landfill today following yesterday’s fire.
District of Summerland chief administrative officer Linda Tynan says the fire, which broke out yesterday morning, Aug. 30, was extinguished last evening but a truck and two fire fighters were left on scene overnight.
“They’ve been continuing mop up today, but the landfill is fully open at this time,” Tynan says.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
“It took place in the demolition pile, but a discussion on how it started has yet to take place,” she says.
Firefighters from the Summerland Fire Department, Summerland utilities crews, along with the B.C. Wildfire Service resources battled the fire for most of yesterday, backed up by the Penticton Fire Department, who covered regular fire operations from the Summerland firehall.
