Assault victim found bloody and unconscious in downtown Kelowna

Kelowna RCMP are looking for several suspects after an assault downtown on the weekend.

The male victim was found unconscious on the ground and bleeding from his head at around 12:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, outside a business on the 200 block of Bernard Avenue, according to an RCMP news release.

Police said the victim was attacked by "several others" and witnesses said the suspects fled west on Bernard, but officers couldn't find them.

“This kind of attack on someone is completely unacceptable and the Kelowna RCMP will exhaust all investigational avenues in order to identify and arrest those responsible,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.

Paramedics took the victim to Kelowna General Hospital but RCMP didn't detail the extent of his injuries.

Kelowna RCMP believe the attack was not random and the suspects and the victim know each other.

RCMP are looking to identify witnesses who have yet to speak with police, and canvassing for dash camera video surveillance. Anyone with information can contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 referencing file number 2023-5163 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
