A Kelowna RCMP officer is now facing criminal assault charges related to a wellness check on a UBC Okanagan student in January, 2020.
Const. Lacey Browning responded to a wellness call on Jan. 20, 2020, where she was seen on camera dragging UBCO student Mona Wang through an apartment complex.
While a civil suit between Wang and RCMP was settled out of court earlier this year, the B.C. Prosecution Service approved the assault charges against Browning today, Aug. 23, according to a press release.

On the night of the incident, Browning responded to a wellness check after Wang's boyfriend called RCMP out of concern.
Surveillance footage of the incident at the Academy Way apartment shows Wang on her stomach in handcuffs as she is dragged through a hallway and into the lobby.
The officer dragging her through the building was identified as Browning.
Browning will appear in court Kelowna Provincial Court on Sept. 14, 2021.
