ASHCROFT - A 15-year-old boy arrested after a girl under the age of 10 was sexually assaulted has been released.
Officers are continuing their investigation of the case, which involves the alleged sexual assault of a young girl during the first week of September, Sgt. Michel Grondin of the Ashcroft RCMP says in a release. The young male, whose name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested Oct. 5 and released under conditions including an 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. curfew. He is not to have contact with any person under the age of 12.
Grodin says the assault did not occur on school grounds or during a school activity, and notes workers with the Ministry of Children and Family Development are assisting the investigation.
The accused is set to appear in youth court on Jan. 7, 2016.
