Xinjiang authorities say police killed 8 'terrorists' after being attacked in Xinjiang

BEIJING, China - Authorities in western China say that police under attack from "terrorists" fatally shot eight of them and captured a ninth.

The Xinjiang government news portal Tianshan Net says the group of nine attacked police Monday in Kashgar with knives, and by throwing explosives and burning cars.

A Xinjiang government press officer confirmed the report but said he had no more information.
