Armed shoplifters tell security to 'back off'

A man and woman accused of shoplifting and threatening a store employee at Real Canadian Superstore last Saturday face robbery charges.

PENTICTON - Police arrested a man and woman who allegedly threatened Real Canadian Superstore security after shoplifting from the store last week.

Penticton RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says police were notified 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, by Superstore security of a man and woman leaving the store with items not paid for.

When confronted by store security outside the store, the man revealed a knife, telling the employee to "back off.”

The two then attempted to get a ride from a nearby tow truck driver, but were kicked out of the vehicle.

Police caught up with the duo on Dawson Avenue and arrested them for robbery.

The stolen items, clothing belonging to the accused and the knife were found a short time later near Greyback Construction on Government Street.

The two were held for court.
