KAMLOOPS - The Royal B.C. Museum has released a piece of footage showing a slice of life in Kamloops from the late 1930s.
The footage shows the outside and inner workings of White Way Laundry and Dry Cleaning, with men and women working together in the industrial cleaning service.
The silent footage shows workers in colour from nearly 80 years ago as they work with large machines washing, pressing and drying linens and clothing in a steamy, wooden building.
The video on the museum’s website includes a short article explaining that it’s rare to see women during that period working industrial equipment.
The museum’s footage comes from a collection shot by a Vancouver filmmaker who travelled to Kamloops and recorded the happenings at a variety of businesses in the area.
The building in the footage may be related to the current Whiteway Cleaners in Valleyview, but an employee contacted wasn't sure the business was that old.
The structure shown was likely located at 125 Victoria St. West, which burned down in 2008.
