Approaching winter storm prompts snowfall warnings in southern Interior

FILE PHOTO - Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings as a winter storm moves through B.C.

Environment Canada is warning Okanagan communities and Interior drivers to expect a significant snowfall this weekend.

Enderby, Lumby, Armstrong, West Kelowna, Peachland, Kelowna and Vernon could see between 10 to 15 centimetres tonight, Dec. 17, until Saturday night. The North Thompson region is also expected to be hit with significant snow from the winter storm moving through southern B.C.

"A Pacific frontal system moving across the B.C. Interior will give snow to most southern regions," according to a snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada. "Snow over parts of Okanagan will begin overnight and will continue through Saturday. The snow will ease to a few flurries Saturday evening as the frontal system exits the region."

Warnings were also issued for the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna, and the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass. The province has also warned drivers about travelling along Highway 3 from the Lower Mainland due to the winter storm. The highway is currently open to essential travel only.
