PENTICTON - Apex Mountain Ski Resort opened for the season today, but it’s taken all the resort’s snowmaking resources to make that happen.

Apex Mountain Resort general manager James Shalman says the resort opened this morning, Dec. 14, with the Old Mill and Adrian’s Alley runs in service by the T-bar. The Okanagan run will open Saturday.

The Magic Carpet beginner's area is still closed until more snow falls, leaving only three intermediate runs open for the time being.

Shalman says the resort’s snowmaking equipment has been working hard, but Mother Nature still needs to contribute before more runs can open.

Baldy Mountain Resort, which does not have snowmaking equipment, has had to delay the opening date for their 50th season for the second time this month. The resort said in a media release its lifts will be on standby this weekend with the planned opening delayed until conditions allow for a safe opening.

The resort currently has a 48-centimetre base at the top of the Eagle chair, with hopes for snowfall this weekend.
