Army: Bergdahl's family not currently in Texas, soldier typically determines when to reunite

SAN ANTONIO - The Army says Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's family is not currently in Texas.

Col. Bradley Poppen, an Army psychologist, said during a news conference Friday that a soldier typically determines when to reunite with his or her family. Poppen declined to release further details, citing the family's request for privacy.

Bergdahl was released last month in Afghanistan following five years in captivity in a controversial prisoner swap with the Taliban.

He'd been recovering at an Army facility in Germany but returned to the U.S. earlier Friday, arriving at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.
