It’s been another bad day for COVID cases in B.C.

After dropping to an average of 600 over the Labour Day Long weekend there were 814 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, the second highest daily tally since May 1. There were 867 new cases on Aug. 27.

The good news for the Interior Health region is that it’s no longer recording the majority of new cases in B.C. Still, with 272 new cases, that’s one of the highest tallies this month.

It’s also the highest number in any of B.C.’s five health regions.

There were 241 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 135 in Vancouver Coastal, 90 on Vancouver Island and 72 in the Northern Health region.

There were no new deaths or health care facility outbreaks in the last 24 hours, according to a news release issued by the Government of B.C. today, Sept. 8.

Over the last 24 hours, 5,540 people got their first COVID-19 vaccine, bringing the provincial total to 85.2 per cent of residents over the age of 12. Of those, 77.7% have two doses.

There are 5,550 active cases of COVID in B.C., with 1,793 in Interior Health. Of those, 261 people are in hospital in the province, 129 of whom are in intensive care.
