Americans snap Kelowna Rockets win streak

KENNEWICK, WA - The Tri-City Americans defeated the Kelowna Rockets 5-2 on Saturday night in Kennewick, WA, snapping the Rockets 10 game winning streak to start the WHL season.

With the game tied 2-2 in the third period, the Americans scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the third and added an empty net marker to earn the 5-2 win, handing the Rockets its first loss of the season.

Tyrell Goulbourne opened the scoring for the Rockets, who led 1-0 after the first period.

The Americans jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the second before rookie import Tomas Soustal (Czech Republic) scored his first WHL goal to tie the game heading for the third period.

Jackson Whistle suffered the loss in goal for Kelowna who outshot Tri-City 32-28 in the game.

The Rockets are back home this week with a pair of games, beginning Wednesday night when they host the Tri City Americans in the back half of a home-and-home series.

On Saturday the Rockets will host the Brandon Wheat Kings at Prospera Place. Face-off both nights is 7:05 p.m.
