VERNON - Okanagan ski bums have a reason to celebrate today with the announcement that opening day for Silver Star mountain resort is Wednesday.

Brad Baker with Silver Mountain Resort says in a media release alpine skiing and snowboarding opens on Wednesday, Nov. 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Twenty-five runs, ranging from beginner to intermediate terrain, will be open along with the Comet Express, Summit Chair and Silver Queen chairlifts.

The alpine base is 98 centimetres while there is 41 cm of snow in the village.

"We will add more terrain and lifts as the snow continues to fall," Baker says in the release.

Alpine skiers and snowboarders join the crosscountry skiers who have had access to trails at Silver Star for a week already. Right now, there are more than 38 kilometres of groomed trails open for Nordic skiing.
