KAMLOOPS - The candidates hoping to convince you to vote for them in the federal election have been invited to debate environmental issues at an upcoming forum in Kamloops.
The debate for candidates running in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding will take place on Thursday, Oct. 3 and is hosted by Transition Kamloops and the Kamloops Chapter of the B.C. Sustainable Energy Association, according to a news release.
As of today, Sept. 20, all the candidates, except for incumbent Conservative Cathy McLeod, have confirmed their attendance.
The debate is one of 100 environmental debates that will take place across Canada the same day.
“The goal is to create a nationwide conversation about the environment, giving voters an opportunity to learn about what is shaping up to be one of the top issues of this federal election. All debates will be strictly non-partisan,” the release says.
Each candidate will provide an opening and closing statement and will respond to questions on local and national environmental issues that have been made available to the candidates prior to the debate. All candidates have been invited to participate.
The public will be able to submit written questions prior to the start time. The questions will be grouped, triaged and presented at the discretion of the moderator. There will not be an opportunity for open mic questions, the release says. The moderator is Mel Rothenburger.
The debate will take place on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the House of Learning building at Thompson Rivers University in Room 190. The event is free to attend and there will be no cost for parking for that evening.
