PENTICTON - A young child created some anxious moments when they took off on their own to ride a scooter in a Penticton park yesterday.

RCMP say just before 8 a.m. yesterday, April 28, a concerned citizen phoned the Penticton RCMP detachment to report a young child alone near Lions Park on Warren Avenue.

Officers arrived to find the person who called, along with a young child who was cold but otherwise unharmed, according to an RCMP media release. One of the officers wrapped the kid in her patrol jacket while they figured out the situation.

Despite being very young, the child was able to provide a name and address, police say.

The officers drove to the child’s house, where they found a parent asleep and completely unaware the child had slipped out of the house for some early morning scootering.

“It appears the child had left on their own and headed to the nearby park on their scooter,” Penticton RCMP Const. Liz Vant Erve said in the release. “Their parent... was relieved to have them returned safely."
