An Alberta man's body has been found after an extensive search in Okanagan Lake near West Kelowna.

The body of the 33-year-old man was recovered from Okanagan Lake this afternoon, Aug. 5, after a search by the West Kelowna RCMP, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue crews, according to an RCMP news release.

The incident was first reported on the afternoon of Aug. 1, and the West Kelowna RCMP said a man had not resurfaced while cliff jumping near Rattlesnake Island.

"The depth of the water as well as the topography of the lake made the recovery of the deceased very challenging," Sgt Joel Glen of the West Kelowna RCMP said in the release. "We would like to extend our thanks for the hard work of (Central Okanagan Search and Rescue), Peachland Fire and Rescue, as well as our team. Our heartfelt condolences go out the family and loved ones of the deceased."

Criminality is not suspected in the incident.

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the cause of death. The man's identity will not be released.
