An Alberta man is taking the province to court after he was knocked unconscious by a low hanging ferry cable north of Kamloops.
He launched the civil claim April 3, in Kamloops Supreme Court, seeking costs and damages for his injury.
Travis Daniel claims he was heading south on the North Thompson River on June 26, 2021, when he was knocked out in his jet boat, according to court documents.
When he passed the Little Fort Ferry, the canopy of his jet boat hit the "slackened" aerial ferry cable.
He claims injuries to his hand, neck, back, arms and head, according to the court documents.
His injuries continue to affect him nearly two years after the collision, but his suit more details will be revealed at a subsequent trial. He accrued healthcare costs in both B.C. and Alberta, but it's not clear how much he spent of his own money.
Court documents don't detail the damage to his boat, but he's not seeking costs for repair in his civil claim.
Daniel claims the province and the ministry of transportation, which oversees the ferry operation, was negligent in that it did not ensure the aerial cable was tightened overhead.
He also claims the province failed to have a flag installed nearby that would warn boaters of the overhead cable.
The Little Fort Ferry is a reaction ferry, which means it's tethered to a cable and uses the river's current to help propel it across. It's 93 kilometres north of Kamloops.
The boat itself only carries up to two vehicles and 12 passengers.
The province hasn't yet responded to the claim and none of Daniel's claims have been proven in court.
