Alberta man faces charges after armed standoff with RCMP near Barriere

A 34-year-old Alberta man remains in custody following an armed standoff with RCMP in a rural area south of Barriere this past weekend.

Barriere and Kamloops RCMP responded to a report of an alleged assault and the pointing of a firearm inside a private residence along Knouff Lake Road on March 14, according to an RCMP media release.

Officers cordoned off the residence, and called for assistance from the Southeast District Emergency Response Team when the suspect refused to exit, police say. The man surrendered to police, and was taken into custody without further incident later that evening.

RCMP obtained a search warrant, and found various firearms and ammunition on the property.

RCMP say Chance Justin Dunne, 34, of Edmonton has since been charged by the B.C. Prosecution Service with assault, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of firearms and possession of firearms contrary to order.

Dunne remains in custody pending his next court appearance on March 30, 2020.
