ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A state psychiatric facility in Alaska's largest city has resumed admissions after the state health department said one patient was incorrectly identified as having COVID-19 and two others were no longer actively infected.
The department on Friday said four patients at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute had tested positive for COVID-19 and that the facility was suspending admissions for 14 days as part of its response. The facility falls under the state health department.
But late Wednesday, the department said there was only one active case at the facility. The patient with COVID-19 was known to have the infection before being admitted and was placed in immediate isolation, the department said.
It said after further review, two of the four patients mentioned Friday were “previously known” and not active COVID-19 cases. One was from August and one was from September, health department spokesperson Clinton Bennett said by email Thursday.
A third patient was incorrectly identified as positive, the department said. “This patient had two negative test results but that information was miscommunicated,” he said.
