After long cool spring, heat is on the way for Kamloops, Okanagan

Temperatures are forecast to hit as high as 30 Celsius in Kamloops by next weekend, 27 C in the Okanagan.

This comes at the end of months of below normal temperatures, but very little rain.

While the Environment Canada online forecast calls for a mix of sun and clouds for the next couple of days, it should be sunny all the way through next weekend after that.

The Environment Canada forecast only goes to Sunday. AccuWeather shows it clouding over and cooling next week.

Kamloops is forecast to hit 30 C on Saturday and 29 C on Sunday while the Okanagan should be 27 C on both days.

There was no precipitation recorded in Kamloops for the month of March and only 2.8 mm for April.

It was damper in the Okanagan, even though Kelowna and Vernon were listed as being in severe drought conditions as of March 31 by Agriculture Canada.

Kelowna had 4.5 mm of rain in March and, so far in April, 11.8 mm. with 5.6 mm recorded yesterday, April 23.

Vernon got 6.3 mm of rain yesterday and Penticton 5 mm. Kamloops only has 0.9 mm.

On the down side, the rapid increase in temperatures could lead to some rapid snow melt and potential flooding.
