After 25 years in a big old house on Pandosy Street, the Kelowna International Hostel is going to be replaced by an apartment building.
The new owner, numbered company, 1178774BC Ltd., has applied to the city for a permit to build a five-storey, 20-unit rental apartment building to replace the 10-bedroom hostel.
The manager at the hostel refused to comment when contacted by iNFOnews.ca today, May 11. He passed the request on to the owner but would not give a name and the owner did not respond by publication time.

“I sold the business and property in 2018 to a new owner, the hostel continued to run an additional five years,” former owner Crystal Flaman posted on the hostel’s Facebook page. “I hope that someone with a dream opens up a new Kelowna International Hostel or moves it to a new location! (To the person who does this...get in touch with me! I'd love to help you!).”
She posted that the hostel opened on February 12, 1998. It’s in a building at 2343 Pandosy Street that BC Assessments lists it as being built in 1957 with 10 bedrooms and four bathrooms and almost 3,800 square feet on 0.27 acres.
It features hardwood floors, a full kitchen and laundry, free pancake breakfasts (make your own), a free Tuesday night pasta dinner, pick up services, cultural nights, theme parties, it is 420-friendly and one block from Okanagan Lake, it’s website says.

It offers mostly four-person dorms with shared bathrooms for $37 including taxes and fees.
“Our mission is to be the cleanest hostel on the planet in the safest environment possible with the friendliest staff in the world!” its Facebook page says.
The application for the new apartment building shows eight three-bedroom units (40%), five two-bedroom, five one-bedroom and two bachelor suites. It has 20 car parking stalls and 35 bike stalls.
“The project will provide a strong urban corner situated at the intersection of Pandosy Street and Christleton Avenue,” the application says.
