KAMLOOPS - The B.C. Non-Profit Housing Association will be hosting an event in Kamloops next week to discuss affordable housing in the Interior.

The Regional Education, Networking and Trade Show or RENT will take place in Kamloops Thursday, Sept. 20. The event will bring in stakeholders, researchers, educators and leaders to learn about developments around housing policies and make connections with those in the affordable housing sector in the Interior, according to a media release.

“Our events are a great opportunity for non-profit housing providers from throughout the Interior region to build the important relationships that are so essential to the kind of innovative housing proposals we’re seeing emerge right now,” B.C. Non-Profit Housing Association CEO Jill Atkey says in the release. “The educational and networking opportunities are providing much-needed support for housing providers as we mobilize to address the affordable housing crisis throughout B.C."

The event will consist of education sessions which will touch on topics such as public dialogue, discrimination, emergency planning, strategies for revenue diversification, harm reduction for safer housing and a housing tour exploring innovative models across the housing continuum.

There will also be a panel discussion on the revitalization of Spirit Square and will include panel members Bob Hughes from ASK Wellness, Joshua Knaak with Arpa Investments, David Freeman with the City of Kamloops and Jeremy Heighton with the Kamloops North Shore Business Improvement Association.

An affordable housing specialist with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation will also be available to discuss opportunities available to affordable housing providers under the National Housing Strategy.

The event will take place at the Plaza Hotel in Kamloops from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, followed by the Interior Community Partnership Reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the release says.
