Ghana police question 2 Peace Corps volunteers in connection with death of man who robbed them

ACCRA, Ghana - A police official in Ghana says two U.S. Peace Corps volunteers were brought to a police station for questioning in connection with the death of a local man who tried to rob them.

Vincent Dedjoe said Monday the pair was attacked in a robbery and fought back, fatally injuring one of the attackers. He said the two Americans were released after questioning.

Regional police commander Kofi Addae Akyampong said the volunteers told police they used a knife to stab a man who was robbing them, and the man then ran away.

Dedjoe says the incident in the West African nation took place late Friday in the northern town of Wa, and the attacker's body was found dead on Saturday.

Dedjoe did not reveal the names of the aid program's volunteers.
