There's a new film festival coming to Kelowna in September and it promises to be an exciting new addition to the city's cultural scene.

The Adventurers, Wanderers and Explorers Film Festival is all about celebrating independent adventure cinema.

Festival director Joel Perrella said it will be a night to showcase budding filmmakers.

“I wanted this to be something that is Kelowna’s own," Perrella told iNFOnews.ca. "Being in the Interior is kind of like a gateway to all the big mountains. A lot of things start here and they move out... we wanted to celebrate some of the places we love and love to explore."

The festival will be outdoors at the Rotary Centre for the Arts and there are up to 300 seats available. The films chosen have gone through a judging process to ensure top quality content is on display for a night of adventure, excitement and journeying revelations.

The films are set around the theme of travelling, wandering, adventuring and exploration. Perrella said they're about people finding themselves through adventuring and connection to the outdoor world.

The festival aims to showcase talent that recognizes and holds great admiration and appreciation toward the beauty and wonder of the outdoors.

Filmmakers from around the world are showcasing their pieces at this festival. Some of them are new while others have many awards attached to their names but have not yet been screened in Canada.

The festival is supposed bring a nostalgic community feel, journeying and sense of belonging to viewers and creators alike.

“We’re really looking for the stories that go back to the roots of what adventure film festivals used to be," Perrella said.

The three hour festival takes place on Sept. 18 at the Rotary Centre for the Arts and will feature a series of documentaries as well as long and short films, all with different explorations but maintaining the same theme. The longest film will be around 40 minutes in length while the shortest is around five minutes long.

Tickets for the festival are available for purchase here.
