CHASE — Highway 1 west of Chase has reopend after a deadly crash between two tractor-trailers early this morning near Chase.

Around 5:40 a.m. today, two tractor trailer units collided on a two-lane section of Highway 1, about one kilometre west of Chase. One vehicle was travelling east, the other west at the time of the accident.

"It was more of a side swipe than a head-on (crash)," said Chase RCMP Sgt. Gary Heebner.

The driver and one passenger in the eastbound vehicle were both killed. The westbound driver was transported to Royal Inland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries in Kamloops.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Chase Detachment and traffic reconstructionists, however police did report road conditions were bare and dry at the time of the collision.

A detour is rerouting highway traffic through Chase, and it is unknown when it will reopen.
