MONCTON, N.B. - Acadian Coach Lines has announced that it will close its intercity bus service in the Maritimes later this year.
Groupe Orleans Express, the parent company of the bus service, says its employees were told today that all operations will stop by Nov. 30.
The company says it has lost close to $12 million since 2004 due to unprofitable routes.
In a statement, Groupe Orleans Express CEO Denis Andlauer said the company has exhausted all alternatives and had no choice but to shut down the service.
Acadian Coach Lines runs buses in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
In May, unionized workers for Acadian Coach Lines in New Brunswick and P.E.I. ratified a deal to end a lockout that halted bus operations for five months.
