A royal birthday

Jeanette Godin joins King George and his musicians for a photo on her 89 birthday.

KAMLOOPS - If you were wandering around Riverside Park this afternoon you may have seen King George and his musicians getting ready for their performance Sunday evening.

Jeanette Godin, who is celebrating her 89 birthday today, joined the king and his posse for a couple photos while her family looked on, giggling about the good fortune of happening upon this group in downtown Kamloops. The two violinists even took a moment to serenade Godin with their rendition of Happy Birthday.

The group is part of 30 piece band that will be performing A Concert Fit for a King: Handel's Water Music at Riverside Park Sunday at 7 p.m. It is a recreation of the first performance of Handel's Water Music, which took place in 1717 on the River Thames.

The entire band will be dressed in period costume and will perform for King George I and the people who decide to join his fancy water party.
