“With Vernon area RCMP officers out on the roads this summer looking to give children these positive tickets for wearing their bike helmets, there's even more reason to make sure you're wearing yours," Sgt. Steve King with the North Okanagan Traffic Service and Integrated Road Safety Unit says in the release.

The program started June 17 with police officers handing out tickets for a free ice cream cone at participating restaurants.

It’s set to wrap at the end of summer vacation on Sept. 6.
