Business Spotlight

A Career far Beyond Numbers

The six partners at Vernon's Clark Robinson Chartered Professional Accountants and their team celebrate 40 years in business.

A day in the life of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) can be likened to scaling a mountain one day, then walking through a desert the next.

“My days are just like that,” jokes Kyle Britton, CPA CGA, a partner in the Vernon firm of Clark Robinson.  “But in all seriousness, none of my days are the same, they’re diverse and stimulating, and every day has a new challenge.”

Clark, Robinson was established 40 years ago by Art Clark and Ross Davidson.  The firm’s foundation is the partners’ commitment to developing and retaining a personal relationship with their clients, and Britton believes that this has provided continuity in service over the years and allowed, and continues to allow, the firm to anticipate clients’ changing needs.

Clark is proud of the achievement 40 years in business has brought.

“As we’ve grown we‘ve maintained our hands-on involvement with our clients. We know our clients better than some other firms, in the sense of on a personal level.  Many of our new clients are referrals from current clients,” says Clark, who adds that the firm is actively involved with businesses in forestry, manufacturing, construction, retail, hospitality, tourism, farming, real estate, professional practices and more.

The diversity of clients at Clark Robinson keep the firm of over 20 partners and staff engaged, and as Britton points out, there are often new challenges just with changes in technology and new business opportunities. The accounting and tax world is very complex, according to Britton, making it very difficult for business owners and individuals to keep on top of things and stay current.

“With all the talent and experience in our firm, we are able to provide a wide range of services, from accounting to tax to business advice,” says Britton.

Indeed, a look at the firm’s website lists tax and accounting services for companies, individuals, trusts and estates, and a wide variety of business and advisory services.
Business advisory services for purchases, sales, start-ups and projections, and services such as providing overviews of business financial operations are areas of expertise for Clark Robinson. Representing taxpayers in Canada Revenue Agency matters, preparing Canadian non-resident and US personal tax returns, and handling bookkeeping and payroll are also services offered.

For Clark Robinson, being involved in the community is as important as supporting their clients.

“Over our 40 years in business, the staff and partners have volunteered their expertise and assistance with many local service and charitable organizations, including Kal Rotary and the Vernon Public Art Gallery,” says Clark.

Although he may not have thought he’d still be at the same desk 40 years later, Clark’s passion for supporting and guiding individuals and business in the community has kept him engaged. The firm, he says, continues to flourish every year.

“If you’re not moving forward, you’re going backwards; and we don’t want that. We’ve been successful in growing over the years and are looking forward to continuing on that path.”
